David leaned back against the headboard and sighed a contentedly as the ringing stopped."Hey Ketsl. It’s not too late to call is it?" He reached over to the bedside table, lifted his glass to his lips to take a sip of wine. All he had done since she left was think of her, catching a few stink eyes for not being on his game. What was she doing ? Was she thinking of him? What the hell is that? I'm not a school boy
“Hi David. Nah, the timing is perfect...I'm on my break.”
"So how's my gal doing?" David smiled; just hearing her voice again brought back all the memories of Hawaii flooding back.
“Not too bad, considering I've been here at the hospital since 3 this afternoon.”
"Shit, that’s 12 hours. How late are you working?" David frowned at the thought of her having to work so hard. Fuck, I thought my days were long.
"Oh, its just a double shift, only sixteen hours..How long are YOUR days?"
"Depends on the mood of bossman," David snorted before stretching his long legs straight out on the bed.
"RutRoh, is the slave driver working you to the bone? You poor baby! How is your hand BTW?"
"Well he is just in a mood, which is normal for him," David laughed. "My hand?" He glanced down as he flexed it, his fingers nimbly moving in mock scales. "It could use more of your tender lovin’ care."
"Well, come on over sweety, I still have 20 minutes left to my break!"
"If I did that Jon would have a fit, especially since our guitarist just up and flew the coop."
"What? Jon's having a separation anxiety all of a sudden? Can't be away from Richie even for a day? Or is it possible he might be missing a certain friend of mine?"
David chuckled "I think it’s due to a certain friend of yours. He’s been in a foul mood since your lovely friend stepped on the plane in Hawaii.”
"Well, he can always go and join his guitarist in Ohio..."
David sat up, his eyebrow flicking upwards as a grin spread across his face "Oh really? So that's where he went? He just up and left after the show. Jon kind of figured he’d head to find Bri, but he wasn’t sure. Richie sure is taken with her."
"She’s pretty taken with him if all I heard was right," she laughed as she stretched in the chair and sighed loudly.
How is it possible that I can miss him so much after just a few days together? Well, not just few days, but a one wonderful night too...
David laughed, " Only thing that could make this tour better is if you were here Ketsl." He stood and moved to his rooms sliding glass door, his eyes fixed on the night sky.
"Well, I do have few days off coming up.. It’s not enough to fly out and join you unfortunately, but if you happen to pass through we can work something out I'm sure"
David sighed running his hand over the cold surface of the glass "Guess that means high phone bills until then huh? "
“Yeah I guess it does," she whispered.
"Did I mention how much fun I had with you when you were here, well not here here, but Hawaii here? You know with me?" David heard the longing in her voice and knew his own voice sounded the same.
"Yes you did...but I don't mind hearing it again," she smiled into the phone.
"So what you been up to besides working? Have you been keeping up with our tweets? Its Jon's latest obsession. We all have to tweet now, orders from the bossman." David mimicked Jon’s voice, a laugh starting.
"O, you poor baby," she laughed. "You mean you had to learn how to use Twitter?"
"I know how! It’s not too difficult. Its teaching Jon that’s the funny part." David laughed then turned around and headed back to his glass of wine on the bedside table. Picking it up he took a sip.
"You mean he actually did it himself? It wasn't an assistant or Obie or Rew?"
"He did it himself. We're so proud," David snickered. " I think he was looking for a certain brunette though."
"She is not that difficult to find, considering he has her email address, her forum address AND her phone numbers," she chuckled.
“No but he has to do things the hard way. He won't admit to feeling anything More than lust, unlike Richie and myself, we -- " David paused, "go after what we want single mindedly." His mind whirled as the words he’d just let fly sunk in. Did I just admit that?
Carly nearly choked on the cold coffee she was sipping. What did he mean by that?
"Ketsl did I lose you? Are you still here?" David quieted a moment as he listened intently, smiling in relief as he heard the soft breaths over the phone.
"Yeah, I'm still here David." she whispered.
A loud laugh from of 2 of her coworkers entering the lounge made her jump. "Uhm, David, I think my break is coming to an end..."
"I take it we're no longer alone?" David chuckled then grew serious," I meant what I said Ketsl."
"What are you doing tomorrow? I mean later today?" She tried to change the subject his intensity scaring her a bit.
Her changing the subject wasn't lost on David, but not wanting to scare her away he went with it.
Way to go fuckhead! She's already skittish. "Just travelling to San Jose. I don't think we're doin' anything when we get there, well other than the concert that is."
"Well, I'll be home sometime after 8 am...I need to crash for a few hours, but you can call me later."
"Or you can call me when you get up if that works for you?" David threw the suggestion out as he mentally crossed his fingers. If she’d make the effort to call him then she wanted him too. It meant the chase might be a bit easier. Maybe.
"Ok David, what time is good for you?"
He grinned widely at the words."Well I'll be in California so 1pm my time that would be like 3 your time?"
"Sounds good, I'm off tonight, so we won’t have to worry about interruptions."
"Better charge your phone, cuz Ketsl I plan on talking all night if I can," David teased.
"I can't think of a better way to spend the night...well with the exception of spending it with you in person." She glanced up at the duo at the refrigerator. Did I just tell him that I want to spend the night with him? Did they HEAR what I said? Ow girl, you need to get some sleep or drink more coffee, your brain to mouth filter is malfunctioning!
A smile crept across his face. "I couldn't agree more. You and I alone on the phone," David grinned wickedly. “It can be almost as fun as you and I in the same room.”
She blushed furiously, and turned away from her coworkers who were sneaking curious glances her way. "That’s not what I....uhmmm...you know what I mean!"
He chuckled. "Are we getting embarrassed? It’s ok to admit to what you really want Baby."
"Daaaaaviiiid," she whined, "it’s not fair to pick on me when I'm flying on little sleep and lots of coffee!"
"But it’s so cute. I can just picture you right now that slight blush on those kissable cheeks of yours, the little hitch you get in your breath.." David groaned his pants growing tighter as the vision of Carly popped into his head
"What I really want is for this shift to be over, and to be in my bed!"
"I could fix that. You could come be with me."
"I wish I could...but I do have a mortgage and car payments...I'm just a normal working Jersey Girl here, remember?"
"I know but maybe I can convince you though," David added with determination.
"Well, I do have some time off coming up in few week. I already put in a request for a weekend off for the Mohegan Sun show."
"Good and maybe I can come out if you don't mind a visit right after the Glendale show?"
"Uhmmm, sure! That would be great I guess..."
"We can discuss the details for me coming out. I wanna see you again and waiting until Mohegan isn't good enough."
"OK! I gotta get back before my patient delivers without me," she laughed. "I'll be looking forward to tonight...well you know what I mean..."
"So am I Ketsl, have a good night. Don't forget to charge your phone," David teased.
"Well, ya know you could always call me on my home number!"
"Oh I will don't worry. Better let you get back to work delivering those babies. Take Care beautiful. Sleep well. I’ll talk to you tonight."
"Back at ya David!”
David closed his phone, his thoughts drifting to the skittish girl in Jersey. Somehow he was gonna make it his mission to show her that all men weren't like her ex. He would do whatever it took to prove it.
